Hurricane Season Plumbing Prep
Storm damage to plumbing is often secondary: a water heater that tips when the garage floods, a pipe that breaks when a tree uproots, or a sewer line that backs up when the system is overwhelmed. A short pre-season check in Oakland Park, Wilton Manors or Coral Ridge can prevent most of it.
Our pre-season checklist
- Shut-off valves. Make sure the main and fixture valves actually turn, and label them.
- Water heater strapping. Check seismic or wind straps and the drain pan and pan drain.
- Backwater and cleanouts. Inspect the cleanout cap and talk through a backwater valve if your street floods.
- Exposed lines. Look at outdoor and attic piping and hose bibs for corrosion or loose supports.
- Sump and condensate lines. Confirm they discharge away from the foundation.
After the storm
If you have been away, open the main slowly, check for hissing or wet spots, and run each tap. Call (754) 351-7230 if anything looks wrong.
